Girls Tennis:
By Bob Waldman
This is something you won’t read often, but the Claremont doubles teams had to carry the Wolfpack to victory.
That isn’t a slight in the least to the three doubles teams, it’s just that CHS singles has been so reliable all year.
In Wednesday’s 10-8 victory over Portola in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs, CHS singles went 4-5, while the Wolfpack doubles claimed six match victories.
Portola’s No. 1 singles player, Bella Chitiv, won all three of her matches on Wednesday.
Chitiv dominated Claremont’s No. 1, Goldie La, 6-0.
And she would go on to earn 7-5 and 6-0 victories over Sydney La and Kyriaki Papadatos, respectively.
The La sisters would win two singles matches apiece.
Caren Uribe and Jahday Drewery claimed comfortable victories of 6-2, 6-0 and 6-0 in the No. 1 slot.
Elizabeth Gonzalez and Gillian Magallanes won two of their three matches for Claremont.
Up next: CHS will travel to ML King on Friday.
King crushed Crescenta Valley, 17-1, in their first-round match.
