Football:
After having their 14-game regular season win streak snapped last week at Quartz Hill, the Rio Hondo Prep football program was back in the win column.
The Kares secured a 27-7 victory at Marquez thanks to a 290-22 advantage on the ground.
RHP trailed 7-6 with 4:25 to play in the half, but they fired back two minutes and 20 seconds later and never relinquished that lead.
Rio Hondo Prep led MHS in first downs (18-11), total offense (313-179) and 25-23 in the time of possession battle.
The Kares lost two fumbles and were flagged five times for 45 yards, as compared to the Gladiators being penalized twice for 15 yards.
Elias Har continues to shine for the boys from Arcadia.
Har had a 27-yard TD run, a 2-point pass to Nicolas Harrington and a 15-yard TD reception from Donald Scheffler.
Matthew Montez led the ground game with 167 yards on 22 carries.
Harrington (6-for-45) and Christian Lee (7-for-44) combined to gain 89 yards on 13 carries.
Scheffler completed 5-of-10 for 23 yards and the one TD to Har.
Five of Austin Keller’s seven eight tackles were sacks.
Carlo Castaneda led RHP with nine tackles.
Nathaniel Riley totaled six tackles, including one sack.
Lee had four tackles in the win.
Jordan Jimenez completed 10-of-13 for 83 yards, and Angelo Gutierrez-Molina was 3-of-8 for 74 yards, including a 35-yard TD pass to Elyjah Samples to give Marquez a temporary 7-6 lead in the second quarter.
Samples caught six passes for 111 yards.
Kahlil Green totaled four receptions for 20 yards.
Damien Toro had a game-high 10 tackles and Samples finished with nine tackles in the loss.
Up next: The Kares host Rowland next Friday at 7.
The Raiders (0-3) have been outscored 114-37 to Baldwin Park, Valencia and Canyon, respectively.
