One of the better indicators that a team is good is when they’re able to find a way to win games when they didn’t play anywhere near their best football.

And that was the case for the Alta Loma football program.

The Lions managed to grind out a 14-6 victory over Glendora at Citrus College to enter their week-four bye at 3-1.

Tyler Perri’s boys can direct much of the credit to the ALHS defense.

The Lions ‘D’ totaled three interceptions and five sacks.

In fact, it was a Semaj Stewart 35-yard pick-six less than five minutes in that gave ALHS a 7-0 lead.

Leading 7-6 with 6:35 to play in the game, Izaih Brown scored on a 46-yard run and that was more than enough for the boys in white and blue jerseys.

Brown led all rushers with 169 yards on 19 carries.

Max Fierro was 6-of-16 for 85 yards and one interception.

He also rushed for 39 yards in the win.

Devon White totaled 41 receiving yards on four receptions.

Owen Lyons and Nathan Alvarado also had picks for the Lions.

The 11 penalties for north of 100 yards will be something Perri and his staff address with their players.

Sebastian Lawrence was 13-of-29 for 150 yards, including his 26-yard TD pass to Carson Kassotis at the eight-minute mark of the third quarter.

Lawrence tossed three picks in the loss.

Tyson Rush led the GHS receiving corps with 82 receiving yards on eight catches, and he picked a pass on defense.

Cole Ellis carried the ball eight times for 19 yards.

Up next: GHS will host Fountain Valley on Friday.

The Barons (2-2) are coming off a 14-7 loss to St. Margaret’s.

ALHS has a week-four bye before hosting Silverado on September 25th.

The Hawks are 1-3 after a 49-21 week-three loss to Quartz Hill.
