Football:
One week after a disappointing three-point (24-21) loss at San Dimas, the Glendora football program was on the road again.
Midway through the first quarter, their hosts from Walnut took an 8-0 lead after Abel Marquez caught a 19-yard scoring strike from Nohlen Simons, and the two-point attempt was successful.
Unfortunately for the Mustangs, the Tartans would score 41 unanswered points, and they cruised to their first win of 2026.
Sebastian Lawrence is off to best start of his three-year career at GHS.
On Thursday, Lawrence hit Tyson Rush on TD passes of 48 and 50 yards, respectively.
Lawrence also connected with Cole Van Woerkom on a 32-yard TD on the first play of the second quarter to give Glendora a 13-8 lead that they would never relinquish.
Lawrence was an efficient 6-of-8 for 184 yards, the three scores and no turnovers.
Through the first two games, he’s tossed five TD passes and been picked once.
Rush reeled in three passes for 104 yards and the two scores.
The Tartans were missing their starting running back Nazir McGlothen to injury.
But Cole Ellis stepped up big with 81 yards rushing on just four carries.
Ellis had TD runs of 19 and 38 yards.
Noah Brus, the younger brother of Northwestern stud Braydon Brus gained 22 yards on five carries, including a 5-yard TD run.
Mason Pittman had a 25-yard reception from backup quarterback, Jude Munoz.
Joseph Pedraza’s late interception finished the night for the WHS offense.
Up next: The Tartans host Claremont next Friday at Citrus College in their 2026 season opener.

We got out to a slow start, but we felt like we were the better team and we were so eager to win after a disappointing loss last week. My quarterback coach (Pucci) stresses no turnovers and no sacks, and I just didn’t want to give them any momentum. We missed Nazir tonight, but Cole Ellis stepped up and played amazing.
