Football:
They say defense wins championships.
That’s music to the collective ear of Alta Loma.
Through the first two games of the 2026 season, the Lions have surrendered just seven total points.
And ALHS’ defense is only responsible for a single field goal.
They opened the season with a 37-0 blowout over Colony.
And on Friday night, Alta Loma left La Canada with a 21-7 victory at St. Francis.
Leading 6-5 at the half, the Lions scored a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns inside Jim Bonds Stadium.
ALHS was able to force three turnovers, and it cost the Golden Knights 15 points.
And speaking of that stingy defense, Alta Loma held SFHS to 125 yards of total offense.
Max Fierro is playing far more intelligent and composed than your typical sophomore, and he did so inside one of the southern section’s toughest places to get a win.
Fierro completed 8-of-13 for 135 yards.
He tossed a pair of TD passes.
And Fierro rumbled in from 1 yard out early in the second quarter to give ALHS a 6-5 lead after a failed two-point attempt.
Fierro hooked up with Santiago Vasquez on a 30-yard TD pass.
Fierro and Vazquez also converted the 2-point attempt.
Izaih Brown took a screen pass 33 yards to the house.
Brown also rushed for 92 yards on 15 carries.
Samaj Stewart and Devon White both picked St. Francis passes for the ALHS defense.
Up next: The Lions host Etiwanda next Friday at 7.
The Eagles fell, 35-25, to their visitors from Murrieta Mesa.
