Baseball:
San Dimas finds itself in rare terrain.
The Saints have earned so much success in recent memory that anything less than utter dominance seems unusual from the boys in blue.
SDHS entered their first season in the Hacienda League having gone 59-3 in Valle Vista League play over the previous seven years.
That included having won five VVL titles in the six full seasons over that stretch.
In 2020’s COVID-19 shutdown season, the Saints met up with Baldwin Park twice, and no league champion was crowned.
That gets us to April 11th.
After Friday’s 1-0 loss to their visitors from Colony, San Dimas is 2-3 in Hacienda League games.
That puts them in a two-way tie for third place with Alta Loma.
Steven Gonzales tossed a seven-hit shutout.
Gonzales issued one walk and struck out eight SDHS batters.
Of his 95 pitches, 72 were strikes.
Vaughn Coleman singled, doubled and stole two bases.
Joshua Layva had two hits of his own.
Aaden Escarcega, Ashton Romero and Jayden Claros had one single apiece to account for the rest of the Saints offense.
James Rocha pitched more than well enough to win.
Rocha went the distance and allowed one run on three hits.
He walked two and fanned seven Colony batters.
With one out in the top of the fourth inning, Jeremy Guadian drew a walk.
Two batters later, Ricardo Zazueta’s two-out RBI single turned out to be the game-winning base hit.
Zazueta went 2-for-3.
James Cook had the other CHS hit on Friday.
