Gianna Messick Tosses 11-Inning Shutout & Strikes Out Six in Glendora’s 3-0 Palomares League Opening Victory at Ayala

Softball:

Gianna Messick put Glendora on her back in Tuesday’s Palomares League opener at Ayala.

The Tartans’ junior tossed an eight-hit 11-inning shutout in GHS’ 3-0 victory over AHS.

Messick didn’t walk a batter, and she struck out six.

Of her 118 pitches, 84 were strikes.

Jordyn Balingit and Madison Caganap had two hits apiece for the Bulldogs.

Isol Lopez, McKenzie Becerra, Taelor Walker and Marisa Dominguez had one hit apiece.

Allie Lukaszewicz got the loss after surrendering three runs on 12 hits over 11 innings.

Lukaszewicz walked two and struck out 12 GHS batters.

With one out in the top of the 11th inning, Kaylie Winovitch, Elizabeth Dominguez and Messick had consecutive singles to load the base.

Rylee Franks and Kylie Coleman had RBI singles and Kennedy Bowers’ RBI ground out gave GHS a 3-0 lead.

Bowers also collected a double.

Ayva Cabuena and Morgan Gonzalez had two hits apiece for the Tartans.

Dominguez had a pair of singles and scored.

Messick singled and scored to help her own cause.

Lauren Curiel walked and singled.

Up next: GHS and AHS will both be in action on Thursday.

The Tartans host Diamond Bar, and the Bulldogs welcome Walnut.
