Baseball:
Marshall Fundamental took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning against their visitors from Schurr.
And Caleb Thatcher and Michael Gerst made that stand up in a 3-2 victory over the Spartans.
Thatcher went six strong innings, and he was charged with a pair of unearned runs on three hits.
He didn’t issue a walk and struck out eight SHS batters.
Gerst provided a scoreless seventh inning to earn the save.
He allowed two hits, no walks and got two of his outs via strikeout.
Liam Lu doubled and scored.
Joseph Tapia had an RBI single in the top of the sixth inning.
Logan Trevino singled and doubled in the loss.
David Torres had a solid outing for Schurr.
He went four innings and allowed three runs (one earned) on six hits.
Torres didn’t issue a walk, and he fanned a pair of Eagles.
Joey Amano went two scoreless innings in relief for the Spartans.
Ben Muro singled, doubled and scored.
Elijah Lain hit a solo HR in the second to give Marshall a 1-0 lead.
George Jennings singled and scored.
Adan Castro singled once in the win.
Nate Callaway went 2-for-3.
