Boys Basketball:

San Dimas finished the CIF-SS section of their 2024-25 season on Saturday morning.

And the Saints made their deepest postseason run since 1999.

SDHS beat every legitimate D-3A program they ran into, including Calvary Chapel Santa Ana, Esperanza, Providence and Norte Vista to earn a spot in Saturday’s title tilt at the Toyota Center in Ontario.

Unfortunately, as many voiced in the week leading up to championship game, Aquinas has no business being in that particular division.

The Falcons played a top-tier schedule, and their size advantage included 10 players at 6-foot-1 or taller, including a 7-foot center.

You won’t hear Jeremy Ketterling, his staff or their players making excuses.

San Dimas stepped onto the arena floor as the underdog, but they did not go down without a fight.

Aquinas, however, went on to secure a 59-41 victory to earn the D-3A title.

SDHS and AHS were locked in a 9-9 tie after the first eight minutes.

The game’s defining moment (or eight minutes) ended up being a 22-6 Aquinas run in the second quarter.

Aquinas also had a .463 to .333 shooting percentage in the win.

They also out-rebounded SDHS by a margin of 36-24.

Malachi Jones had a game-high 17 points to go with eight rebounds.

Vincent Warsaw contributed 13 points and five rebounds.

Jumaa Kitendo added 10 points and nine rebounds.

Jeremiah Garzon led SDHS with 10 points, five rebounds and three blocked shots.

Angelo Fares finished produced nine points.

Luke Chavez had seven points, four rebounds and two assists.

Aaron Diep was an ironman for the Saints.

He played 31:08 out of the game’s 32 minutes.

Diep finished with six points and five rebounds.

Nathan Yearout chipped in with six points, five rebounds and a pair of assists.

Up next: The Saints will likely receive an at-large victory for the CIF State playoffs.

Quotable:

SDHS coach, Jeremy Ketterling: “Obviously, I’m very proud of our kids. I thought we played really hard. Aquinas was very athletic, and bigger than us, so they were tough defensively. The first quarter was very competitive. We struggled a lot in the second period, and unfortunately got ourselves in a hole.
