College Baseball:
Three Chaffey College pitchers combined to toss a one-hit shutout in the Panthers’ 4-0 victory on Friday over their visitors from San Diego City College.
Connor Luetto did the heavy lifting.
Luetto went seven scoreless innings, and he allowed just one hit.
Luetto didn’t issue a walk, and he registered four strikeouts.
Jacob Villacorte and Norberto Toscano went one scoreless and hitless inning apiece, and they both struck out one SDCC batter.
Gavin Daley had the only Knights base hit.
Dustyn Burns went four scoreless innings and allowed two hits.
Burns walked two and fanned six Chaffey batters.
Cole Winsor surrendered two runs on two hits over two innings.
Winsor issued a pair of walks and struck out three.
The Panthers got a pair of insurance runs off Mekenna Wakakuwa on three hits.
Wakakuwa went 1 2/3 innings, walking one and striking out a pair.
Austin Easter walked, scored and had an RBI double in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Jaden St. Cyr doubled and scored.
Derek Almeda singled in a run in the sixth inning and scored.
Dillon Smalls followed Almeda with an RBI single of his own to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead.
Austin Easter doubled in a run in the eighth.
Cameron Casado’s RBI single gave Chaffey a 4-0 lead.
Jayden Sanchez walked and singled.
Up next: The Panthers travel to Mt. San Jacinto at 1 in the rubber match of their IEAC three-game series.
