Baseball:
South Hills scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning and four Huskies’ pitchers made that stand up in a 4-1 victory over La Salle.
Chrisian Santoyo earned the win after going four hitless innings and allowing one unearned run.
Santoyo didn’t issue a walk, and he fanned three Lancers’ batters.
Justin Romero (2/3 of an inning), Joseph Moreno (1 1/3) and Zack Escalera (1) combined to get the final nine outs to secure victory No. 2 for SHHS of the new season.
In the top of the fifth inning, and with no outs, La Salle loaded the bases on a pair of South Hills errors and one hit batter.
However, the Lancers managed to get just one run on a fielder’s choice.
Chris Cardenas doubled, and Peter Calihan singled and scored.
Morgan Sullivan was saddled with the loss.
Sullivan went four innings, and he was charged with four unearned runs on three hits and two walks.
David Eriksson got the final six outs without any damage, and he struck out three South Hills batters.
Zack Escalera went 2-for-3 and scored.
Gabriel Guerrero singled and scored.
Victor Merlos singled and had two RBIs.
Nicolas Munoz walked and scored.
Up next: The Huskies battle Bonita on Saturday at 1 at SHHS.
The Bearcats (2-0) secured a 6-0 victory over Crescenta Valley.
