Baseball:
Arcadia opened the 2025 season with a 4-1 victory over La Serna in the South Hills (Pizza Chalet) Tournament.
The Apaches got two runs apiece in the top of the third and fourth innings and then they rode the arms of Damian Catano and Tyler Swilling.
Catano earned the win after going five innings and allowing one run on four hits.
Catano issued four walks and struck out two.
Swilling provided two scoreless and hitless innings in relief to close out the win.
He didn’t walk a batter and struck out two.
Ryan Barraza had two of the Lancers four hits.
Dominic Segura’s RBI single in the bottom of the fifth accounted for La Serna’s lone run of the game.
Grady Long got the loss after allowing four runs (two earned) on four hits over 4 1/3 innings.
He didn’t issue a walk and fanned a pair of AHS batters.
Maverick Silva’s RBI single in the third gave AHS a 1-0 lead.
Two batters later, and Leo Peniche singled in a run of his own.
In the fourth inning, the Apaches scored on a Lancers’ error, and then Tyler Brereton singled in a run for a 4-0 lead.
Avery Truesdale singled and scored two runs.
Swilling walked and scored.
