Boys Soccer:
Congrats to Monrovia two-sport athlete, Micah Maljian.
The Wildcats senior just committed to play soccer at Westmont College in Santa Barbara.
Maljian is also a part of Brad Blackmore’s baseball program.
Monrovia (13-2-5, 5-1-2) will host South Pasadena on Tuesday night at 6, and there’s nothing less than the Rio Hondo League championship on the line.
The Tigers and Wildcats settled for a 2-2 tie back on January 17th.
But back to Maljian.
This season, he’s tallied 17 goals, 13 assists and 47 points.
Those numbers don’t just lead the Wildcats.
They are also tops for the entire Rio Hondo League.
Over his career, Maljian has totaled 35 goals, 29 assists and 99 points.
MHS is 52-25-13 since the 2021-22 season with Maljian in the lineup.
If Monrovia is able to defeat South Pasadena, it would secure a second consecutive RHL title.
The icing on the cake for this commitment has to be the possibility of Maljian also competing for the Westmont baseball program.
If his on-the-field prowess isn’t impressive enough, Micah has a 4.3 GPA.
He plans to major in Business.
Maljian is also a young man with unimpeachable character, and he comes from a great family.
He’s beloved by his coaches as you’ll read just below.
“I am very proud of Micah and all the hard work he has put in, Monrovia baseball coach Brad Blackmore said. “I’m not sure this kid has ever gotten a week off between soccer and baseball. He loves the work and the competition and he’s an elite athlete and student. I have been blessed to coach him for four years.”
Micah’s soccer coach, Andrew Barajas, described Maljian’s impact this way:
Said Barajas: “It’s been a true pleasure getting to know Micah both as an athlete and as a person. I first met him during one of our summer soccer camps when he was in fourth grade. Right away, you could see how much he loved the game – even in a scrimmage, his passion and respect for the sport stood out. He was eager to learn, always soaking in as much as he could. When he joined our program, we were thrilled to have him on the team. I’ll never forget the seniors during his freshman year saying, “We’ve got to get this guy on varsity.” And they were spot on. Micah played with a maturity well beyond his years. Despite being smaller than most of our opponents, he wasn’t afraid to step up in big moments. Watching him play as a senior has truly been a special experience. When he’s locked in, his confidence, composure, and skill make a huge impact on the entire team. His positive attitude and determination are contagious, and it’s clear how much his teammates feed off that energy. His leadership will definitely be missed, but his influence on the program and his teammates will undoubtedly last.”
Just below, Maljian shares his thoughts on continuing his academic and athletic careers at Westmont.
