Baseball:
The West Coast Elite 12U travel ball program didn’t just claim an AAA Perfect Game World Series championship.
WCE dominated throughout, going 7-0, and outscoring their opponents by a combined margin of 77-24.
That included a 9-1 four-inning mercy-rule victory over the San Diego Saints in the title game on Wednesday.
WCE, made up of players from Upland, Chino Hills, Ontario, Montclair, Eastvale and Jurupa, had eight hits in the win, including four home runs.
Daniel Villagomez went all four innings to earn the win.
Villagomez surrendered one run on six hits.
He issued a pair of walks and registered eight strikeouts.
Fifty-one of his 73 pitches were strikes.
Offensively, Carson McGee had a monster performance in the championship game.
McGee went 3-for-3 with a pair of runs and five RBIs.
McGee’s 3-run shot highlighted a four-run fourth inning.
Grayson Kerr walked and his solo home run in the fourth secured the championship.
Ethan Sanchez went 2-for-2 with a solo shot.
Adam Milazzo singled and scored a pair of runs.
Alonzo Duran hit a solo home run for WCE.
Dillon Stovel had one RBI and Lucas Adams scored in the win.
Stovel was also named the tournament MVP after slugging four home runs and driving in 14 over the seven-game stretch.
He also tossed four scoreless innings.
An interesting sidenote: WCE coach George Barnes played at APU for the late-great Tony Barbone, as well as current Mt. SAC and PCC head coaches, John Knott and Pat McGee.
Barnes went on to serve as the pitching coach at Mt. SAC and APU, and one of his athletes on this title run includes McGee’s son, Carson.
Up next: WCE will play in Cooperstown, New York, on July the 11th.
