Football:
Bonita would be the first to tell you that Friday night wasn’t exactly a shining moment.
They entered its Sierra League contest against visiting Claremont as a 48-point favorite, according to MaxPreps.
BHS was also held to 13 points under their 39-point per game average.
But the bottom line will always be ‘scoreboard.’
Bonita led throughout its 26-7 victory over the Wolfpack.
They are now 7-0 for the first time since 2014.
On the flip side, the BHS ‘D’ held the CHS ‘O’ to 21 points under their weekly scoring average.
The Bearcats got on the board midway through the second quarter when Travis Lippert found Byron Alva on a 7-yard scoring strike.
The point-after attempt failed.
Lippert followed that with a 34-yard TD pass to Dylan Robinson.
BHS wasn’t able to convert its 2-point conversion attempt, and their advantage grew to 12-0.
Claremont got to within 12-7 just before the half, as Jerred Pocock snuck in on a 1-yard keeper.
However, the Bonita defense shut the Wolfpack out in the second half.
With 2:23 remaining in the third quarter, Noah Mikhail gave BHS a 19-7 lead after his 14-yard TD run.
And Joseph Lara closed out the scoring with a 23-yard TD run.
Lippert threw TD passes 19 and 20, and he’s been picked just two times in his first year leading the Bearcats offense.
