College Baseball:
The Mt. San Antonio College baseball program weathered a five-game losing streak in mid-March.
But fast forward three weeks, and the Mounties have won seven of their last eight games, including Tuesday’s 13-5 victory over Rio Hondo College in the first of a three-game South Coast Conference series.
MSAC has taken over sole possession of third place in the SCC standings.
Matthew Leyva was charged with the loss after allowing four runs on four hits over his four innings.
Leyva issued seven walks and didn’t register a strikeout.
Kaden Moeller went 2-or-4, with two walks, a pair of doubles, two runs and three RBIs.
Blake Hagerty singled, doubled, scored and drove in a pair of runs.
Andrew Walters drew a pair of walks, singled, scored twice and had one RBI.
Joey Rossetti walked, singled and scored.
Bradyn France singled, doubled, scored and drove in two.
Daniel Briones was walked three times, singled and scored a pair of runs.
Nick Mejia walked, singled, scored and had two RBIs.
Joel Gutierrez walked and had an RBI single.
Diego Ortiz singled, scored and had one RBI.
Andrew Ramirez walked and scored.
Moeller was credited with the win after going three scoreless innings.
Moeller allowed one hit, walked one and fanned three Rio Hondo College batters.
Josh Zarate’s two-run single in the top of the seventh got the Roadrunners on the scoreboard.
Matt Covarrubias walked, singled and drove in a pair of runs.
Michael Salcedo, Gabriel Lizarraga and Adrian Luna singled and scored one run apiece.
Logan Mikel went 2-for-4.
Gabriel Martinez had an RBI double and scored.
Up next: The Mounties travel to Rio Hondo on Thursday at 2.
