Baseball:
Two of the San Gabriel Valley’s premier programs met up Tuesday at the Boras Classic.
And appropriately, it took extra innings to determine a winner.
Maranatha edged San Dimas, 5-4, in eight innings.
Along with adding a significant victory to their resume, the Minutemen also snapped the Saints 12-game win streak.
SDHS had gone 40 days without a loss.
Kody King went five innings for the Saints, and he was charged with four runs (three earned) on six hits.
King didn’t issue a walk and fanned six MHS batters.
Kasen Khansarinia got the loss after allowing one run on three hits and one walk over three innings.
Gabe Barragan’s solo home run in the top of the eighth was the difference.
Eric Zdunek hit a two-run HR in the top of the sixth to give Maranatha its first lead of the game at 4-3.
Zach Strickland walked, singled, doubled and scored two runs.
Jacob Yun singled twice and scored.
Josh Proctor had an RBI single in the fifth.
Strickland went 5 1/3 innings, and he was charged with four runs (two earned) on five hits.
Strickland walked one and struck out nine San Dimas batters.
AJ Beltre was credited the win after one scoreless and hitless inning in relief.
Ryan Castro walked, singled twice and he scored three runs.
King walked with the bases load, and his RBI single in the bottom of the sixth tied the game at 4-4.
Landon White singled twice and scored.
Jayden Medina had an RBI ground out.
Up next: The Minutemen and Saints will be back in action today at the Boras Classic.
