Justin Santiago got off to about as impressive and efficient a start to his senior season as possible.
The 6-foot-2 Bonita ace held the Northview offense in check throughout Saturday’s 2-1 victory in the 2023 season opener.
Santiago allowed a single run in the top of the seventh, but finished what he started.
He didn’t issue a walk and struck out 11.
Santiago fanned eight separate Vikings at least once, and got three NHS batters twice.
He needed just 79 pitches to defeat a very talented Northview team, and of those, 62 were strikes.
Santiago faced three batters (24) over the minimum, and he threw first-pitch strikes to 17.
