Baseball:
Loyola has all but wrapped up fourth place in the Mission League after Monday’s 7-0 victory at Alemany.
With two games remaining, the Cubs are just one-half game behind third-place Crespi.
And if St. Francis is able to win one of their two remaining games with the Celts, Loyola could finish as high as third place, trailing just Harvard Westlake and Notre Dame.
Cubs’ Coach Sean Buller, his staff and their players have completely changed the trajectory of the program, one year after winning three league games and finishing in the Mission League basement.
Joey Frey went six scoreless innings and scattered five hits to earn the win.
Frey walked two and struck out 13 Alemany batters.
Jacob Gallegos got the loss, allowing three runs on four hits.
Gallegos went four innings, walked one and fanned four Loyola batters.
Adam Magpoc went 3-for-3 with a run and RBI from the leadoff spot.
Tino Valdez singled three times, scored and had two RBIs.
Jackson Shea walked, singled twice, scored and had an RBI.
Carson Chavez walked, singled, scored and had an RBI and Peyton Lodge singled and scored.
Donnie Morgan walked twice and scored, and Matthew Lee scored once in Monday’s win.
James Dell’Amico walked and singled and Luca DiPaolo doubled.
