College Baseball:

For this first time in Pat McGee’s eight years at the helm at PCC, the Lancers claimed an SCC series victory over Long Beach.

They didn’t play in 2021 due to COVID-19, but before this week, the Vikings had dominated the Lancers for decades.

And it looked to continue in 2022 after they rallied late to steal game one, and led 5-2 in the second.

But after a six-run ninth inning on Thursday, and a 14-5 victory on Saturday, PCC defeated LBCC, 2-1, this week.

Coleman Mitchell went five-plus innings to get the win.

The former Monrovia right-hander allowed four runs on seven hits.

He walked two and struck out three.

Nicolas Day provided three important innings of relief, allowing one run on two hits.

And Kyle Noell came in and got the final three outs, including two via strikeout.

Raul Garcia finished with a single, three-run HR and four RBIs.

Alex Seguine walked, tripled and scored twice in the loss.

Matthew Pinal walked and hit a solo HR.

Evan Vazquez had two doubles for LBCC, and he was also saddled with the loss.

Vazquez surrendered seven runs (six earned) on 11 hits over his 4 2/3 innings.

He walked two and struck out three PCC batters.

The Lancers got four runs off Jake Habelitz and three more from Luis Guzman.

Max Blessinger and Matt Rice had a huge Saturday.

Blessinger walked twice, singled twice, doubled, scored and drove in a game-high five RBIs.

Rice went 4-for-4, with a walk, three singles, a double, two runs scored and three RBIs.

Aryonis Harrison singled twice and scored a pair of runs.

Marco Martinez walked, doubled and scored twice.

Jakob Guardado went 2-for-5, with a walk, two singles, three runs and two RBIs.

Kenny Kim singled twice, doubled, drove in a run and scored twice.

Andrew Scannell singled in two and scored.

Jake Trabbie walked twice and scored.

Raider Tello walked and singled for PCC.

Up next: PCC will host first-place ELAC on Tuesday afternoon in the first of a three-game series.
