Softball:
They say all good things must come to an end.
But to be accurate, the 2021 softball season for the Azusa Aztecs was much better than “good.”
After a perfect run through Montview League play and a first-round playoff victory, the Aztecs fell, 4-2, in the second round of the CIF-SS Division 6 playoffs to Orange Vista.
The Coyotes scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning.
Iliana Cardenas was stuck with the loss.
Cardenas went all seven innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on nine hits.
She walked four and struck out three.
Iliana Mejia walked, singled, tripled and scored for the Coyotes.
Annabelle Calderon had an RBI base hit and Christyona Arballo went 2-for-4.
Nia Smaw singled, scored and drove in a run.
Hannah Mendez singled and scored.
Arballo got the win in the circle for Orange Vista.
Arballo went the distance, allowing two runs on four hits.
She walked three and struck out nine.
Cardenas doubled and drove in both Azusa runs.
Angelian Correos walked, singled and scored twice.
Juliana Canizales and Natalie Sosa had one hit apiece to account for the rest of the Aztecs’ offense.
