It doesn’t get any worse than this.
Kerry Welsh, who earned the title of Glendora High School’s 2020 Girls Scholar-Athlete of the Year, was killed on Saturday night in a car crash.
It’s been reported that Welsh was going to pick up her little sister from a birthday party and a driver ran through a stop sign in West Covina and struck her.
She was just 18 years of age.
Welsh earned a full-ride scholarship to Loyola Marymount thanks to her 4.6 weighted GPA.
She took 11 AP classes during her academic career at GHS.
Welsh played soccer all four years and competed for the swim program during her freshman season.
In a story last year, Welsh talked about her love of sports, but there was nothing that got her more excited than learning.
“I’m ambitious when it comes to academics, and I learned from a young age that learning was important, so I’ve always valued that,” Welsh said. “I never went to school with a bad attitude, because I knew there was something new that I could learn each day.”

Welsh called herself a math girl and says one day she’d like to get into medical school and work in pediatrics or neurology.
She named Mr. Hart (AP History AP Seminar), and Miss Reigstad (AP English) as her favorite teachers.
Welsh also talked about the huge influence that her parents, Albert and Chiarra, had on her life.
“My dad has sacrificed so much for us and the thing I respect most about him is how courteous he is to everyone, including strangers. He’s also a very selfless man, who began working from home so he could pick me up from school,” Welsh said. “My mom graduated from college in the Philippines before moving to United States to become a physical therapist. She’s extremely hard working and someone I admire a great deal.”
We send the most heartfelt sympathy and love to Albert and Chiarra, as well as Kerry’s siblings and friends.
May God bless, Kerry Welsh.
