Adrian Lopez Homers Twice, Drives in Four Runs; Maranatha Crushes Excelsior Charter, 23-7, on Monday Afternoon

Three days after scoring just one run in its season opener, the Maranatha bats came alive in a big way.

The Minutemen pounded five Excelsior Charter pitchers for 20 hits, including five home runs.

MHS cruised to a 23-7 victory in Victorville.

RJ Torres was saddled with the loss.

Torres surrendered seven runs on eight hits in 2 2/3 innings of work.

Adrian Lopez had a monster game with two walks, two home runs, a single, four runs scored and four RBIs.

Ryan Mittleman went 3-for-5, including two singles, a home run, three runs and three RBIs.

Garrett McGuigan singled twice, homered, drove in a pair of runs and scored once.

Ben Staub singled, homered, drove in two runs and scored three times.

Jackson Hisey walked, doubled, drove in two runs and scored once.

Xander Douglas went the distance for the Minutemen.

In all, Douglas surrendered seven runs on nine hits, including a pair of home runs.

Isaiah Hernandez doubled and homered for Excelsior Charter.

He scored twice.

And Brayden Casteneda hit a three-run shot in the loss.

Up next: Maranatha will host Upland on Wednesday at Brookside Park.
