Glendora picked a great time of the year to have its bats catch fire.

The Tartans have defeated Bonita, Claremont and Alta Loma in that order, and have moved into sole possession of second place in the Palomares League with just two games to go.

The exclamation mark of the last three league victories came Friday when GHS hammered Alta Loma pitching for 11 runs on 10 hits.

Five just happened to be home runs, as the Tartans left Alta Loma with an 11-3 victory.

Virginia Nemeth went 3 for 3 with three home runs and five RBIs.

She also scored four runs.

Ashley Waite singled, homered twice and drove in five runs of her own.

Four of her five RBIs came on a grand slam.

Morgan Coleman singled, doubled and scored once.

Melissa Nemeth singled twice and scored.

Chloe Bahruth went 1 for 4 with a run.

Kayla Arzate scored once for the Tartans.

Ashley Hibbard went the distance for Glendora.

The Tartans’ freshman allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits.

Hibbard walked four and struck out six Alta Loma batters to earn the victory in the circle.

Briana Vazquez, Erica Soliz, Kylie Galindo and Keahiele Mattson had two hits apiece for the Braves, including a solo home run from Mattson.

Soliz got roughed up for 11 runs (10 earned) on 10 hits to get stuck with the loss.

Soliz walked six and fanned eight Tartans’ batters.
