Suslow Triples in Tying Run in Top of Seventh & Scores on Wild Pitch to Help Lead Maranatha to a 6-5 Victory Over Lakewood

Baseball:

Maranatha trailed Lakewood by one run in the top of the seventh at Thursday’s Central Coast Classic.

The Minutemen, however, scored a pair of runs in the top of the seventh to secure a 6-5 victory.

Xavier Nunez went four innings for the Lancers, and he was charged with four runs (one earned) on four hits.

Nunez issued one walk and registered two strikeouts.

Aiden Kautsky was saddled with the loss after allowing two runs on three hits over three innings of work.

He didn’t give away a free pass and fanned one MHS batter.

Will Suslow tripled in the game tying run in the seventh, and he’d score the eventual running run on a wild pitch.

Noe Zavala walked and had a two-run single.

Moses Alvarez went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.

Kaleb Derosier was hit by pitch and singled.

Yahir Treto singled and scored.

Michael Herman singled and drove in a run on a sac fly.

Gabe Barragan reached on a fielder’s choice and came around to score.

Kaiden Lai went six innings, and he was touched up for five runs (two earned) on eight hits.

Lai didn’t issue a walk and registered eight strikeouts.

Jayden Morales retired the side in the bottom of the seventh, including one via strikeout to earn the win.

Anthony Rueda went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs, and his two-run HR in the fourth gave Lakewood a 5-3 lead.

Victor Rodriguez had a pair of singles.

Joel Melena went 2-for-3 with an RBI single in the first inning.

Xavier Nunez singled, scored and had an RBI ground out.

Nate Gallegos singled and Nick Gallegos scored once for the Lancers.

Up next: The Minutemen finish out tournament play on Friday against Righetti (11-5) at 3.

MHS and RHS are both 3-0 this week.
