Wrestling:
The Northview girls’ wrestling program dominated its competition at the Second Annual Sonora Tournament of Champions in La Habra.
The Vikings had five champions, five runners up and three placed sixth.
NHS (293) finished 118 team points higher than second place Hillcrest (175).
South Hills (81.5) finished seventh as a program with three placers.
Bonita (80) was eighth with three placers.
Charlie Kuntz (Liberty) secured the 100-pound division with a pin of Northview’s Madison Tolentino at 3:58.
Tolentino went 3-1, all coming via pinfall.
Sophia Lazaro (Northview) pinned Jaelynn Pondivida (Chaparral) at 2:39 in the 105-pound title bout.
Lazaro went 4-0 with two pins, a decision and a tech fall.
At 110 pounds, Esperanza’s Samantha Cornejo defeated Northview’s Zoey Vallejo, 19-2.
Vallejo pinned her way to the finals.
Northview’s Eliana Garcia earned the 120-pound title with a 10-3 victory over Mission Viejo’s Jocelyn Chacon.
Garcia went 5-0 with four pins and a decision.
Mia Hooper (Northview) edged Liberty’s Delilah Robles, 8-7, in the 125-pound title bout.
Hooper went 5-0 with two pins, a tech and two decisions.
At 130 pounds, Hillcrest’s Savina La Grass pinned Northview’s Marci Cueva at 5:25.
Cueva went 4-1 with four pins.
Sophia Garcia (Orange Lutheran) defeated Juliet Salazar (Northview), 20-6, in the 135-pound final.
Salazar went 3-1 with three pins.
Northview’s Jules Sitani struck Righetti’s Anabell Aguirre at 1:12.
Sitani tallied three pins, and a tech fall on her way to the 145-pound crown.
At 155 pounds, Temescal Canyon’s Gwenna Mitchell pinned Northview’s Emily Ortiz at 5:44.
Ortiz went 3-1 with a pin and two decision victories.
Northview’s Leyla Juarez (Northview) earned the 170-pound championship with a pin of San Pascual’s pinned Valerie Cervantes-Cru at 2:25.
Juarez went 4-0 with two pins, a decision and tech fall.
Arroyo’s Jade Martinez secured a 190-pound championship with a stick of Hillcrest’s Gabriella Cervantes at 3:25.
Martinez won each of her three matches by pin.
