Football:
West Covina had a chance to secure an outright Valle Vista League championship on Thursday night.
The Bulldogs needed a week-10 victory over their visitors from Northview.
One week ago, NHS dropped a 21-20 decision to Alta Loma, which was their lone VVL loss of the season.
Northview dominated from start to finish and claimed a 35-0 victory.
The Vikings and Bulldogs will share the VVL title with Alta Loma after the Lions put a 28-7 beatdown on their hosts from San Dimas in a game that wasn’t as close as the score might indicate.
There were two stats that tell the whole story in Northview’s dominance on Thursday night.
The Vikings’ ‘D’ held West Covina to 93 yards of total offense and five first downs.
Gabriel Murrillo led WCHS with 38 yards rushing on 10 carries.
Elias Irvin completed 7-of-14 for 63 yards.
Moses Gogue had four catches for 33 yards, and Desmond Newman had a 20-yard reception.
The Northview offense had 344 yards of total offense.
Aaron Guillen carried the Vikings’ ground game with 136 yards on 13 carries.
Guillen had TD runs of 40 and 4 yards.
Dominic Munoz (5-for-36), Jaishon Bledsoe (2-for-30) and Robert Lucero (5-for-24) combined to gain 90 yards on 12 carries.
Robert Lucero tossed three TD passes in the win.
Lucero hit his brother Isaiah on a 3-yard TD.
He would connect with Manny Garcia and Jaishon Bledsoe on TD strikes of 11 and 40 yards, respectively.
Isaiah Lucero had four receptions for 29 yards.
Bledsoe caught the one pass for 40 yards, had a 25-yard TD run and gained 30 yards on a pair of carries.
Aiden Jimenez had a 34-yard reception.
Up next: The Vikings and Bulldogs will get their CIF-SS playoff opponent on Sunday morning at 10.
