Flag Football:
Glendora proved a lot of doubters wrong on Tuesday evening.
The Tartans made the 42-mile bus ride to Long Beach Poly to battle a Jackrabbits program that had scored 47 points in their first two CIF-SS Division 3 playoffs wins over Villa Park and Norco.
With the game scoreless at the half, GHS scored three times to secure a 19-0 quarterfinal round victory.
Glendora picked five Poly passes, including two each from Maddie Finkbiner and Reagan Herrmann.
In the third quarter, Emily Husung caught an 18-yard TD pass from Rylee Franks.
After an extra-point pass to Herrmann, the Tartans led 7-0.
In the fourth quarter, Finkbiner picked a pass and brought it back 42 yards for a pick-six and a 13-0 lead.
Glendora would put the game on ice when Franks and Herrmann hooked up on a 12-yard scoring strike.
Franks completed 18-of-30 for 182 yards.
That included the two TD passes and no turnovers.
Husung caught four passes for 81 yards and the score.
Hailey Travisano gained 51 yards on 10 carries.
Travisano also had three receptions for 10 yards.
Finkbiner finished with five flag pulls, the two picks and a pick-six.
Herrmann finished with eight flag pulls and two picks.
She also caught five passes for 24 yards and the TD.
Olivia Martin also picked a pass for the Tartans.
In a span of three days, Glendora knocked off the co-Moore League champions in Long Beach Millikan (13-12) and Long Beach Poly (19-0).
Up next: The Tartans travel to La Serna on Saturday evening in the CIF Division 3 semifinal.
The start time has not been officially determined as of Tuesday night.
The Lancers (16-11-1) edged their visitors from Sunny Hills, 6-0, in their quarterfinal round contest.
Quotable:
Glendora coach, Greg Bidolli: “They had a lot of speed, and their quarterback was very quick and elusive. We played deeper than usual and kept everything in front of us. We had a game plan, and the girls did a great job of executing it. Our corners (Sofia Freking & Myra Torrez) did a great job not letting the quarterback turn the corner. Morgan Anderson did a great job of making the quarterback feel uncomfortable. Offensively, we hit the routes we wanted. We hit some short stuff and then a long one to Emily. We made the adjustments at halftime of things we saw that would be there for us. This was a complete team win.”
