Flag Football:

Talk about setting a high bar for future Bonita flag football players.

In just the first two years of the program’s existence, the Lady Bearcats have won back-to-back (outright) Palomares League titles.

They needed and got a win at Claremont to secure their place in the school history books.

BHS erased any drama early in Wednesday’s showdown.

They took a 26-0 lead into the break, and they’d go on to claim a 32-15 victory at CHS.

But it doesn’t stop there.

The Bearcats are a combined 32-5 overall since 2024, and that includes an 11-1 record in Palomares League games.

That comes out to an overall success rate of 87-percent.

Tressa Beatty completed 16-of-26 for 137 yards.

The Bearcats QB tossed three TD passes and did not turn the ball over.

Sophomore Kendra Anderson was 6-of-10 for 60 yards and one TD.

The Bearcats ground game totaled 31 yards on 11 carries.

Laila Washington carried the ball one time and had a team-high 15 yards rushing.

Peyton Mann caught six passes for 39 yards, including one TD.

Haley Kurrey had TD catches of 17 and 8 yards.

Washington reeled in a pair of passes for 20 yards, and that included one score.

Kody McKinney had four receptions for a game-high 62 receiving yards.

Laney Sweeney caught two passes for 18 yards.

Peyton Lak had two receptions for 16 yards.

Grace Tolan had a team-high six tackles, while Hayden Andrew had four to go with one interception.

Maya Caceres and Malia Misawa provided three flag pulls apiece.

Caceres also tallied three sacks.

Julia Bowman had two tackles and a sack.

Marley Flores had a sack of her own.

Leah Reynolds picked a pair of passes, and she returned one for a pick-six.

Up next: The Bearcats will get their playoff opponent on Friday afternoon at 2.

After a one-and-out scenario in last year’s playoffs, BHS hopes to earn postseason victory No. 1 next week.

Quotable:

Bonita coach, Mike Mann: “I’m proud of this team. We’ve fought through a lot of adversity this season. After starting off with a loss in league, we never panicked. Instead, we simply trusted in the process with hard work and necessary adjustments. Winning back to back league championships in a very difficult Palomares League is a milestone we get to share with our entire Bonita Bearcats family forever. The amount of love this team gets from the school and the community is quite humbling. The games are won on the field, but the program that has been built comes from a village of quality supporters. We will continue to prepare for what’s next as CIF releases pairings on Friday. Nothing changes for us. It’s always us vs. us regardless of our opponent. If we play hard and execute, we’ll always give ourselves a chance to compete.”
