Football:

Citrus dug itself a 21-0 hole on Saturday night.

In fact, Cerritos’ Bruno Caldarella took the opening kickoff 88 yards to paydirt.

And while the Owls made a valiant comeback, the Falcons prevailed, 33-24, in a National-Central Conference showdown at Citrus College.

Former Glendora quarterback Jake Denerson got his first college start.

And the Owls quarterback more than made the best of it.

Denerson completed 20-of-38 for 242 yards.

He hooked up with Sean Persson on TD connections of 36 and 5 yards.

Emmanuel Mogbolu reeled in a 12-yard TD strike from Denerson to pull the Owls to within 24-21 of the Falcons.

Cerritos, though, scored 10 of the game’s final 13 points.

But back to Denerson.

He totaled game highs in carries (14) and rushing yards (123).

Jamahl Wilson gained 92 yards on eight carries.

Persson led all receivers with seven catches and 103 yards.

Brayden Austin finished with three receptions for 86 yards.

Cerritos’ Dylan Eldredge was 15-of-36 for 207 yards.

Eldredge tossed three TD passes and no picks.

Former Northview stud, Cheo Medina, led the Falcons with 93 yards on 12 carries.

Isaiah Blair led the Cerritos receiving corps with three catches for 98 yards, including a 17-yard TD from Eldredge.

Kyle Ferm, another GHS graduate, had a game-high eight tackles for Citrus.

And that included 2.5 tackles for-loss.

Hunter Corbin tallied six tackles, while Jaylen Wynn and Dominic Rausch chipped in with five tackles apiece.
