Flag Football:

Ayala did everything it could to ruin Bonita’s perfect inaugural season when the girls in green visited Chino Hills on Tuesday night.

The Bulldogs got on the board first.

Brooklee Harris found Delilah Reynaga on a 30-yard TD pass.

And AHS look to take that 6-0 lead into the break.

However, on what would have been the final play of the first half, Ayala was called for a roughing the passer.

That meant the Bearcats had one untimed down at the 1-yard line.

Tressa Beatty would make it count, as she hit Laney Sweeney on a 1-yard TD pass.

Both teams failed on their extra-point attempts and started the second half in a 6-6 tie.

Both defenses played well throughout.

Ayala’s offense, though, drove all the way to the BHS 6-yard line with less than a minute to play.

After a couple of incomplete passes, the game would go to overtime.

Both programs would get the ball at the 20-yard line, and they had four plays to score.

Bonita got the ball first and Beatty drove BHS to the Ayala 1-yard line.

On 3rd-and-goal, Beatty gave Bonita its first lead of the game.

She connected with Kody McKinney on a 1-yard TD pass.

Beatty found Sweeney on the extra-point attempt and the girls from La Verne led 13-6.

Ayala would get a final shot.

But on 4th-and-13, Harris’ pass was picked by Malia Misawa in the end zone.

It set off a celebration for Bonita.

The Bearcats finished 14-0 in the regular season, and they were the only undefeated program in the San Gabriel Valley area.

Breanna Sandmark had an interception on defense for BHS.

Beatty completed 16-of-33 for 126 yards, two TD’s and no picks.

Sandmark led BHS with 21 yards on four carries.

Sweeney caught five passes for 42 yards, including the first-half TD and the extra-point reception in overtime.

Haley Kurey had three receptions for 35 yards.

Sandmark totaled 29 yards receiving on three catches.

McKinney caught a pair of passes for 10 yards and the game-winning TD catch.

Hayden Andrew led the BHS defense with five tackles and Misawa had four.

Brooklee Harris went 19 for 39 for 202 yards.

She tossed one TD and was picked three times.

Harris also ran the ball once for 10 yards.

Chloe Keuilian had a team-high 19 rushing yards on three carries.

Addison Gonzalez had a big night with seven receptions for 80 yards.

Reynaga totaled 50 receiving yards on four catches, including the Bulldogs’ lone TD of the night.

Ashlyn Hames caught four passes for 54 yards.
