Girls Tennis:

Thanks to Maranatha for this report:

Playing league powerhouses, Village Christian and Valley Christian, the last two matches seemed to toughen the Lady Minutemen, who learned from their more seasoned rivals.

That was evident today in their non-league match against the visiting Pioneers of Providence/Burbank.

Maranatha had a solid all-around effort, and were led by #1 Grace Yang in singles, and #1 Mia Huang/Diana Sarksyan and #2 Madison White/Jennifer Chu in doubles, each of whom posted dominant sweeps.

Yang, who had been off her game in recent weeks, regained her rhythm today, pulling off the rare “triple bagel” in winning, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0.

Huang/Sarksyan played solid tennis in their 6-3, 6-0, 6-0 wins, as did White/Chu, who won, 6-3, 6-0, 6-1.

#2 Mia Su posted two wins, 6-2, 6-0, while dropping a close 5-7 set in the opening round.

#3 Kathryn Khalil split her first two sets, 6-1, 4-6, before battling with the Pioneers’ #1 in a hard-fought seesaw affair in the day’s final set that went to a tie-breaker.

Like the set itself, the tiebreaker saw several lead changes, as they were tied 3-3, then 6-6, before Khailil finally succumbed, 8-6.

#3 Dora Wang/Morgan Duran played gritty tennis, pulling out 6-4, 6-4 wins before Wang was subbed out for Juliana Zhang against Providence’s #1 doubles.

Duran/Zhang were 2-2 with their opponents, before dropping the final four games, to fall, 6-2.

Up next: The Lady Minutemen (7-3) resume league play next week, as they travel to Whittier Christian on Tuesday for a 1 p.m. start.
