Flag Football:

Ayala has likely secured the Palomares League’s No. 2 spot after Monday’s 8-0 victory over Glendora.

With one league game to play, AHS (3-2) would need undefeated Bonita (4-0) to drop Palomares games to visiting Claremont on Thursday, and at Ayala next Tuesday to share the league crown with the Bearcats.

In the first round BHS had 33-22 and 38-15 victories over the Wolfpack and Bulldogs, respectively.

Ayala’s scoring drive came on its fourth possession of the game, when McKenzy Becerra connected with Addison Gonzalez on a 40-yard TD strike.

Chloe Keuilian added the two-point conversion on her birthday.

Defensively, AHS forced a number of three-and-outs and intercepted a pair of passes.

Ava Trujillo and Mariah Holguin were flag-pulling machines, and Trujillo had a big sack late in the game.

The secondary, which consisted of Skyler Bergeron, Zeah Gorospe, Amaryn Silva, and Delilah Reynaga, deflected balls, broke up passes, and were a menace to the Glendora offense.

Amaryn Silva returned a pick 12 yards, and Addison Gonzalez intercepted a pass and brought it back 17 yards.

Trujillo’s sack cost the Tartans six yards.

The GHS defense pressured Becerra throughout.

She completed just 7-of-22 for 122 yards.

She threw the one TD and was picked once.

Keuilian carried the ball four times for 28 yards, and Gonzalez gained 21 yards on two carries.

Gonzalez also had a pair of receptions for 55 yards and the one score.

Holguin had a 40-yard reception.

Glendora’s Emily Husung and Olivia Martin picked passes on Monday.

It’s Husung’s seventh and Martin’s eighth of the season.

Paola Casas, the Tartans defensive anchor, had a team-high five flag pulls.

The Glendora defense has been solid, especially of late.

In the last two games, the Tartans have surrendered one score each to undefeated Bonita and second place Ayala.
