Football:
Heading into Friday’s showdown at Rio Hondo Prep, the Boron football program was 4-0 and they had outscored Bishop Montgomery, Mira Monte, Riverside Prep and Sierra by a combined margin of 204-47.
Apparently, that didn’t impress the Kares all that much.
RHP scored the game’s first 42 points, and they sent Boron on their 137-mile drive back home with a 42-6 loss.
In what had to be Mark Carson’s most satisfying stat of the game, the Kares got six TD’s from six different players.
RHP had a 340-174 advantage in total offense, and that included 207 yards rushing, as compared to 89 for the Bobcats.
Caeden Holcomb had a game-high 51 yards rushing on seven carries, and he scored a 1-yard TD early in the first period.
Noah Penunuri scored on a 4-yard TD run, and he finished with 46 yards on nine carries.
Yanick Diaz and Alex Mustain both threw a TD pass for the Kares.
Diaz hit Nate Curtis on a 19-yard TD, and Mustain found Tyler Dang on a 27-yard scoring strike.
Joshua Taflinger and Calogero Chico had TD runs of 7 and 35 yards, respectively.
Chico and Curtis picked off passes for the undefeated Kares.
Up next: The Kares will host Torrance this coming Friday at 7.
The Tartars (3-1) destroyed Garden Grove, 41-0, in their Friday night contest with the Argonauts.
