Boys Tennis:

Stepping on a court for the first time in a week, due to rain, the Minutemen were eager to play, coming out firing, going 5-1 against the newly renamed Coyotes (formerly Rebels) from the California Academy of Math and Sciences (CAMS).

Doubles went 3-0, with #1 Josh Im/Hayden Geeting and #2 Sawyer Tarampi/Eli Su each winning, 6-2, while #3 Matt Yip/Malachi Dharmaratne recorded a 6-0 “bagel.”

That “bagel” was matched by #2 singles, Shahe Yerevanian, who was joined by #1 Victor Qiao in the win column, 6-3. #3 Spencer Wang came close to winning for the first time as a Minuteman, falling 4-6.

The second round was on its way to being a carbon copy of the first round, with Maranatha dominating in similar fashion, until CAMS’s #2 singles, roared back from a 1-5 deficit to Qiao, to upset him, 7-6 (2), in a tiebreaker.

No upsets occurred in the final round of play, giving MHS a convincing 14-4 victory.

Both squads are rebuilding this season, having lost their top players from last season, including their entire singles lineups.

Singles:
#1 Victor Qiao – 6-3, 6-7 (2), 6-3
#2 Shahe Yerevanian – 7-5, 6-0, 6-0
#3 Spencer Wang – 4-6, 2-6
#3 Elbert Sun – 0-6

Doubles:
#1 Josh Im/Hayden Geeting – 6-2, 6-0, 6-1
#2 Sawyer Tarampi/Eli Su – 6-0, 6-2, 6-2
#3 Matt Yip – 7-5, 6-2, 6-0

Maranatha moves to 2-2-1; 2-0 in league and next plays at Azusa on Tuesday, March 28, in a rescheduled contest that was canceled due to rain.
