Baseball:
Friday’s CIF-SS Division 3 showdown between Simi Valley and No. 2 Arcadia could not have been much closer.
The Pioneers and Apaches totaled five hits and one error apiece.
They both featured two pitchers and one extra-base hit apiece.
The only stat that mattered, though, is that AHS scored once in the bottom of the seventh to secure a 3-2 victory.
Damian Catano went six innings, and he was charged with one run on three hits.
Catano issued three walks and registered seven strikeouts.
Isaiah Spencer was credited with the win after going the seventh innings and allowing an unearned run on two hits.
Spencer walked one and fanned a pair of Pioneers.
Evan Rodriguez walked and hit a solo home run to lead off the game.
Ryan Whiston’s two-out RBI single in the top of the seventh inning tied the game at 2-2.
Andrew Nicklaus walked and singled.
Liam Barkwill singled and scored.
Devin Medina singled.
Kyle Casey went 3 2/3 innings, and he surrendered two runs on three hits and three hit batters.
Casey walked two and fanned one.
Wyatt Ruiz provided three innings in relief, and he was charged with one run on two hits.
Ruiz walked one and fanned a pair of AHS batters.
Aiden Soto walked, tripled in a run and scored.
Julian Salmon’s RBI single in the bottom of the second gave Arcadia a 2-1 lead.
Matt Manzo went 2-for-4 and his two-out RBI single in the seventh secured a walk-off win for the Apaches.
Jordan Vogel walked, singled and scored.
Tyler Brereton walked and scored.
Up next: The Apaches travel to Summit on Tuesday at 3:15.
The SkyHawks (20-9) secured a 7-6 first-round victory at La Canada.
