La Canada Scored Four Runs in Bottom of 7, But Summit Prevails, 7-6, in 9 Innings; Spartans Won RHL Title in 2026

Baseball:

La Canada saw its highly successful 2026 season come to an end on Thursday.

But they went down swinging.

Trailing 6-2, the Spartans scored four times in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings.

Unfortunately, Summit (20-9) scored once in the top of the ninth to secure a 7-6 victory in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 3 playoffs.

La Canada’s 19 wins was a program best since 2019.

And one year after sharing the Rio Hondo League title with Monrovia, the Spartans went 11-1 en route to claiming an outright RHL championship.

Mario Flores went 5 2/3 innings, and he was charged with two runs (one earned) on four hits.

Flores issued a pair of walks and registered nine strikeouts.

David Tamayo surrendered four runs (three earned) on five hits over 1 1/3 innings.

Tamayo walked one and fanned one LCHS batter.

Caleb Oberlander got the win after going two scoreless and hitless innings and striking out two.

Ross Piken went 3-for-4 with a run and two RBIs.

That included a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at 6-6.

Joe Bell singled twice and scored.

Austin Loughrin singled in a run in the seventh and scored.

Benji Geller doubled in a run in the seventh and scored twice.

Brandon Mohaghegh drew a pair of walks and had an RBI double in the sixth.

Will Park walked and scored.

Ethan Wong and Chase Regan singled.

Joe Bell went 4 1/3 innings, and he allowed four runs (three earned) on four hits and a hit batter.

Bell walked four and fanned four SHS batters.

Fritz Phillips was charged with a pair of unearned runs on two hits and a hit batter over 2 2/3 innings.

He issued two walks and registered a pair of strikeouts.

Scott Burns went the final two innings and he surrendered an unearned run on one hit and a pair of walks.

Noah Garcia was 0-for-4 when he stepped into the batter’s box in the top of the ninth inning, but his RBI double extended the SkyHawks season.

Zack Harlow drew three walks and scored.

Mario Flores went 2-for-3 with a walk, run and two RBIs.

Evan Spencer, Issak Lechuga and Kenneth Parks walked, singled and scored one run apiece.

Jordan Hall walked and scored.

Jason Magdaleno went 2-for-5 with a pair of RBIs.
