Baseball:
In the worst kept secret, Ayala is the best baseball program in the Palomares League.
The Bulldogs wrapped up another Palomares League championship after Friday’s 1-0 victory at Diamond Bar.
AHS scored once in the top of the seventh and Caleb Trugman did the rest.
With two games to play, Ayala has a three-game lead over second-place Glendora.
Trugman tossed a three-hit shutout.
He issued a pair of walks and registered 11 strikeouts.
Trugman surrendered a leadoff single in the bottom of the seventh, and after a sac bunt that moved the runner into scoring position, the 6-foot-5 right-hander induced a pair of ground outs.
Sixty-six of his 100 pitches were strikes.
Trugman struck out seven DBHS batters at least once, and that included three with two strikeouts or more.
Dominic Deguzman walked and singled.
Jeremiah Jung and Jacob Smith had one single apiece to account for the rest of the Diamond Bar offense.
Sebastian Roseli suffered the loss in spite of allowing just one run on seven hits over 6 2/3 innings.
Roseli walked three, struck out four and hit one AHS batter.
The Bulldogs lone came in the top of the seventh.
With two outs, Eric Hernandez singled and stole second.
One batter later, Elijah Duarte singled in Hernandez for what turned out to be the game winning run.
Hernandez went 2-for-4 and Duarte had two hits in three at-bats.
Jaden Valenzuela drew a pair of walks and singled.
Easton Sarmiento and Jrue Hurd had one single apiece for the champs.
