Citrus Pounds Out 14-1 WSC Victory Over West LA; Owls go for Win No. 30 in Friday’s Regular Season Finale

Citrus secured its 10th consecutive victory on Thursday over their visitors from West LA.

With a win in Friday’s regular season finale at West Los Angeles, the program would reach the elite 30-win plateau.

It would be the third time this century that the Owls had accomplished that feat.

In 2002 and 2003, Citrus totaled 33 and 30 wins, respectively.

Hall of Fame coach Skip Claprood led the Owls to the most wins in program history in 1975 (35).

But back to Thursday’s regular season home finale.

Citrus cruised to a 14-1 victory.

The Owls out-hit West LA, 19-7, and they had a 5-2 advantage in extra-base hits.

Connor Luetto went six innings and allowed just one run on two hits.

Luetto didn’t issue a walk and registered eight strikeouts.

Julian Hines provided three scoreless innings in relief and allowed five hits.

Hines didn’t walk a batter and struck out two.

Gustav Everly singled, doubled and scored.

Khaleb Romero had an RBI single in the top of the sixth inning.

Tristan Philip-Guide singled and doubled.

Jerrell Hightower and Jorge Zermeno had one hit apiece in the loss.

The Owls went nuclear on Alexander Oppenheimer.

Oppenheimer was roughed up for 10 runs on 13 hits, two walks and a hit batter over five innings.

Isaac Nava doubled, scored three runs and hit a three-run home run.

Derek Almeda went 3-for-4 with two runs and a two-run home run.

Dustin Yela singled twice and scored a pair of runs.

Jordan Daniels went 3-for-4 with a walk, two runs and a pair of RBI singles.

Cole West and Joe Gilkeson singled and scored one run apiece.Do

Lance Armijo had an RBI triple and a two-run single.

Dominic Torrez went 2-for-5 with a run and two RBIs.

Royce Mendoza doubled in a run.

Cam Casado went 2-for-2 with a walk, one run and an RBI.

Matt Kaneshiro scored once for the Owls.
