Flag Football:
Bonita secured at least a share of the Palomares League title on Monday night.
The Bearcats trailed 2-0 throughout Monday’s showdown at Louie Pompei Memorial Park in Glendora.
In the second quarter, GHS senior Morgan Anderson sacked the Bonita quarterback in the end zone for a safety.
Anderson finished with three sacks on the night.
However, with approximately 10 minutes left in the game, Bonita sophomore Kendra Anderson scored on a 10-yard TD run for what turned out to be the game-winning score.
GHS held Bonita to just 84 yards of total offense.
Tressa Beatty completed 11-of-16 for 59 yards.
Beatty didn’t find the end zone, and she was intercepted by Maddie Finkbiner.
BHS had five athletes that combined for 25 rushing yards on 10 carries.
Laila Washington caught three passes for 22 yards.
Kody McKinney and Haley Kurey each caught a 12-yard pass from Beatty.
Malia Misawa led the Bearcats with eight tackles, while Grace Tolan had five and Hayden Andrew tallied four tackles.
Glendora’s Rylee Franks completed 14-of-25 for 126 yards.
Franks didn’t throw a TD, and she was picked by Madi Arzate.
Franks carried the ball seven times for 29 yards.
Hailey Travisano gained 28 yards on the ground, and she caught five passes for 48 yards.
Reagan Herrmann had five tackles, and she totaled 27 receiving yards on three catches.
Finkbiner led Glendora with eight flag pulls.
Up next: The Bearcats can clinch a second consecutive outright Palomares League title with a victory at Claremont on October 14th.
BHS has a pair of nonleague games before then.
Glendora finishes its regular season slate next Tuesday at Ayala.
The Tartans are eligible to earn an at-large CIF-SS playoff berth.
Quotable:
Bonita coach, Mike Mann: “It was a defensive battle on both sides. Sometimes you get games like this where both offenses move the ball down field all game but stall in their drives. Glendora marched down a couple times, and we drove the length of the field a few times. Our defenses buckled down when it mattered most, and we just so happen to be the ones to find a way to punch it in which ultimately was the difference.”
