Baseball:

On paper, Friday’s Hacienda League showdown between Los Altos and their hosts from South Hills shouldn’t be competitive.

It featured the league’s first (SHHS) and last place teams (LA).

However, this is baseball.

And while South Hills eventually secured a win, Los Altos made them work nine innings to earn a 3-2 victory.

Perhaps no stat was more glaring in a one-run contest than two LAHS pitchers combined to walk eight and fan two, while a pair of Huskies issued three walks and struck out nine.

The sixth of six errors cost Los Altos the game, as a fly ball to left was misplayed.

Joseph Moreno went five innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits.

Moreno walked three and struck out seven.

Justin Romero got the final 12 outs, and he surrendered three hits and struck out a pair of Conquerors.

Luke Rodriguez drew a pair of walks, singled, doubled and scored.

Jacob Vargas had a two-run double in the top of the third inning to even the score at 3-3.

Miguel Arroyo went 2-for-5 and scored a pair of runs.

Logan Guevara singled twice and drove in one run.

Either Diaz got the loss in spite of going 6 2/3 innings and allowing just an unearned run on four hits and four walks.

Guevara went the first two innings, and he was charged with three runs on three hits and four walks.

Both Guevara and Diaz struck out one batter apiece.

Aiden Mirabal walked, singled, doubled and scored.

Gabriel Guerrero drew a walk, and he had a two-run double.

Diego Villarreal went 2-for-5.

Paxton Czubek walked twice and singled.

Carson Baker drew a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the first to give SHHS a 2-1 lead.

Wesley Manning walked and scored.

Zack Escalera singled in Friday’s win.

Up next: SHHS will battle Beckman (8-10) this morning (Saturday) at 11.
