Baseball:
After a 2-6 start to the 2025 season, Charter Oak is starting to put things together.
The Chargers trailed 1-0 to their visitors from Garfield with two outs and a runner on second in the bottom of the seventh inning.
They were one out from dropping their season record to 4-9.
Diego Flores tied game with an RBI single.
And Joaquin Cervantes doubled in the game-winning run.
Mark Steven Perez reached base on an error to lead off the bottom of the seventh, and he scored on Flores’ base hit.
Vincent Carrillo tripled.
Martin Luna walked and singled.
Flores and Cervantes both when 2-for-3 with one RBI apiece.
Andre Chavez certainly pitched well enough to win.
Chavez went 5 2/3 scoreless innings, and he scattered four hits.
Chavez didn’t issue a walk and struck out five COHS batters.
Victor Alvarez was charged with two unearned runs on two hits and a walk.
Christian Lopez went 3 1/3 innings for Charter Oak, and he allowed one run on one hit.
Lopez walked four and struck out one GHS batter.
Steven Haywood was credited with the win after going 3 2/3 scoreless innings and allowing four hits.
Haywood didn’t issue a walk and fanned a pair of Bulldogs.
Osmar Vargas singled and drew a bases loaded walk in the top of the fourth inning to give Garfield a 1-0 lead.
CJ Aguayo singled and scored.
Jayden Garcia went 2-for-3.
Brandon Alvarado walked and singled.
Up next: The Chargers will host Rowland on Tuesday at 3:30 in their Valle Vista League opener.
