College Baseball:
After dropping the first of a three-game IEAC series against Cerro Coso (5-4), Chaffey bounced back with victories of 5-4 and 15-5 on Thursday and Saturday, respectively.
With nine conference games to play, the Panthers hold a one-game lead atop the IEAC over Mt. San Jacinto.
In spite of the 10-run victory, Chaffey only had a 14-13 advantage in base hits.
Thirteen of the game’s 27 hits were of the extra-base variety.
Joe O’Regan earned the win after going 6 1/3 innings and allowing just two runs on eight hits.
O’Regan walked three and struck out six.
Michael Moses was charged with three runs on four hits over one inning.
And Seth Wrightstone provided 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief.
Wrightstone allowed one hit, a walk, and he fanned one Coyotes’ batter.
Daniel Rios had two triples and scored.
Jordan Boman went 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles, score once and drove in one run.
Yadiel Casul had a pinch-hit RBI double.
Cayden Johnson went 3-for-3 with a walk and two runs.
Kyle Phin singled and drove in a run on a sac fly.
Stephen Landez had an RBI single.
Deri Steiert-Couture’s RBI double in the bottom of the fourth inning got Cerro Coso on the board.
Ariel Rodriguez walked, singled and scored.
Cayden Johnson was charged with the loss after surrendering five runs (four earned) on seven hits over five innings.
Johnson walked two and fanned four Chaffey batters.
The Panthers scored three runs apiece off Chase Cummins, Gabe Wetzel (two earned) and Andre Carrillo on a combined six hits and four walks.
The Coyotes trio managed to register just one strikeout.
Jaden St. Cyr went 3-for-6 with a double and scored a pair of runs.
Ryder Young hit a two-run HR, doubled and scored three times.
Dominick Torrez went 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs and a pair of RBIs.
Ryan Melton drew a pair of walks, doubled, scored three times and drove in one.
Jordan Daniels had an RBI triple and an RBI single.
Joe Gilkeson singled in two runs and had an RBI ground out.
Eric Valdivia went 1-for-5 with a walk, RBI double and scored one run.
Jayden Sanchez walked, singled and his RBI double in the ninth capped the Panthers’ scoring.
Derek Almeda drew a pair of walks and scored three times.
AJ Hurtado walked three times.
Kaden Durazo walked and scored.
