Gerst & Lain Hold PHS to One Run on Two Hits & Strike Out Five in Marshall Fundamental’s 2-1 Victory at Pasadena

What a week it’s been for the Marshall Fundamental pitching staff.

The Eagles surrendered one total run and two hits in 17 innings, including a pair of five-inning no-hitters.

On Saturday, Marshall went to Pasadena and secured a 2-1 victory to hand the Bulldogs their seventh consecutive loss.

The Eagles scored once each in the top of the sixth and seventh innings.

Michael Gerst was outstanding, but he wasn’t in on the decision.

Gerst went four scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out three.

Elijah Lain got the win, surrendering one run on one hit over three innings.

Lain issued three walks and fanned a pair of PHS batters.

Reese Kim’s RBI single in the bottom of the sixth tied the game at 1-1.

Dylan Derosier walked and scored.

Ian Van Zyl had the other Pasadena base hit.

David Schriefer went six innings for PHS, and he allowed one run on five hits.

Schriefer walked three and fanned three Marshall batters.

Derosier was charged with the loss after allowing one run on four walks in the seventh inning.

Derosier registered a pair of strikeouts.

With the game scoreless, Trevor Lain led off the top of the sixth inning with a double.

Nathaniel Aviles came in to pinch run.

Adan Castro followed with an RBI single to give Marshall a 1-0 lead.

In the seventh, Caleb Thatcher led off the inning by drawing a base on balls.

Three batters later, Thatcher scored on a PHS throwing error.

Callaway walked twice and singled.

Ryan Pandullo walked and doubled.

Trevor Lain went 1-for-2 with the double and two walks.

Ben Muro doubled.

Up next: The Bulldogs travel to Burroughs on Tuesday at 3:45, and the Eagles host Rosemead on Wednesday at 3:30.
