Tafoya & Nunez Combine on Six-Hit Shutout in PCC’s 7-0 Victory at Merced; Garcia & Salcedo Homer for Lancers

College Baseball:

Two Pasadena City College pitchers combined on a six-hit (all singles) shutout on Thursday.

The Lancers claimed a 7-0 victory at Merced in the first of a two-game set.

PCC extended its current win streak to seven games.

Hugo Tafoya went five innings and scattered four hits to earn the win.

Tafoya walked since and fanned three Blue Devils’ batters.

Aiden Nunez provided four scoreless innings in relief and allowed just two hits.

Nunez didn’t issue a walk and registered one strikeout.

Yuito Suzuki singled twice, while Henry Warden, Tate Cassaretto, Isaac Macias and Koen Heupel had one base hit apiece.

Nathan Harding got the loss after surrendering six runs (five earned) on seven hits over 4 1/3 innings.

Harding walked three and struck out a trio of Lancers.

Joaquin Salcedo went 2-for-5 with a two-run HR and an RBI single.

Tyler Garcia walked, scored and hit a two-run blast.

Adrian Roman singled twice and scored a pair of runs.

Thomas Villanueva drew a pair of walks, singled, doubled and scored.

Devon Eskridge and Devin Munoz singled and scored one run apiece.

Omar Cisneros walked and scored.

Brandon Gill and Bryan Richman had one single apiece.

Up next: PCC and Merced will meet up tomorrow (Friday) at noon to conclude their two-game set.
