Maranatha secured a 3-0 victory over Paloma Valley at the Boras Classic on Thursday.
Matthew Vazquez tossed a three-hit shutout.
Vazquez issued one walk and fanned seven PVHS batters.
Of his 83 pitches, 60 were strikes.
Brayden Bessette had two hits for the Wildcats and Jacob Melendez had the other.
Holden Pettit got the loss, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits over Pettit’s complete-game effort.
He walked one and fanned a pair of Minutemen.
Mo Aguirre went 3-for-3 with an RBI.
Josh Proctor doubled and scored.
Zach Strickland singled and scored.
Lukus Perez went 1-for-3 with a run.
Noe Zavala singled for MHS.
Jacob Yun’s sac fly in the bottom of the sixth gave Maranatha a 2-0 lead.
