Baseball:

For the second time this week, a Glendora pitcher shut out the Diamond Bar bats.

On Tuesday, Brayden Johnson tossed a one-hit shutout in a 13-0 victory for the Tartans.

Fast forward 48 hours, and Aaron Jacobsen put together a performance that could only be described as effective and efficient.

Jacobsen needed just 61 pitches in Glendora’s 4-0 victory at DBHS.

AJ scattered four hits (all singles), didn’t issue a walk, and he registered four strikeouts.

Of his 61 pitches, 44 (72-percent were strikes).

Carlos Cornejo, Nathan Nakamura, Isaac Insuasti and Marcos Davaloz had one hit apiece to account for the Brahmas offense.

Cornejo was saddled with the loss, allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits and a walk over the first inning.

Jeremiah Jung provided 5 2/3 scoreless innings in relief in spite of walking six batters.

Jung allowed a pair of hits and fanned a pair of Tartans.

In that four-run first inning, Sebastian Garza singled, Kai Zeits walked, and Jacobsen lined out to left.

Garza scored on a wild pitch, and Tyler Obert’s triple drove in Zeits for a 2-0 lead.

Jackson Glaze had an RBI single, and he advanced to third on a two-run error by the Diamond Bar right fielder.

Aiden Yamazaki drove in Glaze on a sac fly, and the Tartans extended their lead to 4-0.

That was more than enough for Jacobsen.

For the game, Zeits drew a pair of walks and scored.

Obert went 2-for-3 with the run and RBI.

Mason Danison walked and singled, and John Seader singled for GHS.

Diego Garza drew a pair of walks.

Up next: The Tartans host the Brahmas on Saturday at noon.

Quotable:

Glendora pitcher, Aaron Jacobsen: “I was placing the fastball where I wanted to today, and I got weak contact with all of my pitches. Weak contact and an awesome defense made today pretty stress free. Pitching generally is fun and competitive for me, but even more fun when you have a lead like that, or maybe I’m just comparing it to hitting, which is the hardest thing in sports. I was very happy with how everything went.”
