Baseball:
Damien and their visitors from St. John Bosco were locked in a scoreless tie as Tuesday’s game entered the sixth inning.
The Braves struck first with two runs in the top of the sixth.
The Spartans, though, answered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning.
And Casey Sanchez got the final four outs to secure a 3-2 victory.
Rudy O’Dell went four scoreless innings for Damien and allowed two hits.
O’Dell walked one and fanned a pair of SJB batters.
Bosco got a pair of runs n three hits in 1 2/3 innings off of Jojo Moreno before Sanchez closed the door.
Moises Razo walked, tripled and scored.
Noah Everly had an RBI single to give the Braves a 1-0 lead.
Macade Maxwell singled and drove in Everly on a sac fly.
Jack Champlin went all six for SJB, and he surrendered three runs on four hits.
Champlin walked one and struck out six Spartans.
Nathan Moreno doubled in a run to pull Damien to within 2-1.
Elius Kelly followed with an RBI single.
Moreno scored on a wild pitch for what turned out to be the game winning run.
Grant Corder went 2-for-3 and scored.
Pietro Rose reached base on a fielder’s choice, and he came around to score on Moreno’s double.
