Boys Basketball:
Colton Gray refused to allow his high school career to come to an end on Wednesday night.
The Glendora senior absolutely did it all in an 83-79 victory at Mayfair in triple overtime.
Gray scored 31 points, grabbed 22 rebounds, dished out eight assists, went 9-of-9 from the free-throw line, and he hit all four of his 3-point shots.
In triple overtime, Gray got a rebound, Mayfair was forced to foul, and it sent Gray to the line.
He would convert both free throws to give GHS an 82-79 lead.
Vince Montalbo scored six points, including four of the Tartans’ six points in overtime.
Montalbo hit a 3-pointer and then he made 1-of-2 from the free-throw line after a steal to make it a two-possession game.
Mayfair’s Josiah Jackson fouled Montalbo and that forced the Monsoons’ leading scorer to exit the game for good with a team-high 21 points.
Lost in all the drama is that GHS extended its win streak to 24 games.
Max Hilgenfeldt continues to be of the SGV’s most underrated players.
The GHS junior scored 20 of his 24 points in the second half and overtime.
Hilgenfeldt finished with four 3-pointers, he went 4-of-4 from the free-throw line, and he added three assists and two rebounds.
Sebastian Demano hit a pair of 3’s, and he finished with 17 points.
GHS had a narrow 11-10 edge in 3-pointers made.
The Tartans converted on 18-of-21 from the charity stripe, while Mayfair was 15-of-21.
DJ McClair scored all 15 of his points from beyond the 3-point arc.
Nasir Chapman scored 11 points and Jordan Burr chipped in with eight points in the loss.
CJ Murray didn’t score, but he provided six rebounds and three assists for GHS.
To say, Glendora was fortunate to advance would be an understatement.
This is how close Mayfair came in the second OT to ending their season.
Up next: The Tartans will host top-seeded Camarillo on Friday at 7 in the second round of the CIF-SS Division 2AA playoffs.
The Scorpions (27-2) edged Lakewood, 55-52, in their first-round contest.

Quotable:
GHS coach, Gordon Hamlow: “What made me most proud, was that our guys didn’t let the pressure get to them and they were excited to go out there and compete after every quarter and each overtime period. The excitement and energy level never dipped. We embraced the pressure and the grind and worked through the tough times. Since I’ve been at Glendora over the last seven years, no one has had that kind of an impact in a game like Colton did tonight. People know he’s going to score, and we know he’s going to get doubled, but what a lot of people don’t know is that he’s an excellent passer.”
GHS senior, Colton Gray: “I thought about it being my last game before stepping on the court, but when playing, it didn’t touch my mind. It hit me afterwards that it was close to being my final one, but it makes me very grateful to be able to have one more guaranteed. My teammates just stayed consistent, whether we went on a run or Mayfair did. We were all calm and composed. We’ve been in that situation before, and they knew what we needed to execute.”
