Boys Basketball:
That was exactly what a championship game should look like.
Etiwanda and Rancho Cucamonga met up on Wednesday night at RCHS in the Baseline League Tournament title game.
The Eagles took a lead in the first quarter, and they didn’t relinquish it until there were 54 seconds remaining.
The Cougars had a 35-22 advantage in the second half.
And that included a 15-8 run in the fourth quarter to edge EHS, 62-58, before a packed and raucous gym.
The Cougars had a 7-2 edge in 3-pointers.
Aaron Glass put RCHS on his back with 35 points.
Glass hit four 3-pointers, and he went 9-of-10 from the free-throw line.
The Texas A&M bound guard scored 10 of Rancho Cucamonga’s 15 points in the decisive fourth quarter.
This basket with 54 seconds to play gave RCHS its first lead since early in the first quarter:
One of RCHS’ unsung heroes was Aiden Jensen.
The 6-foot-5 senior had a pair of blocked shots, rebounds, a steal, and he hit 2-of-4 free-throws in the game’s waning moments.
McKel Shedrick provided 10 points, including a pair of 3’s, and Diego Murguia chipped in with seven points in the win.
Sloane Harris led Etiwanda with 22 points.
Harris had both of the Eagles 3-pointers, and his 14 points in the first half helped give EHS a 36-27 lead at the break.
Devin Mitchell finished with nine points.
AJ Orji chipped in with eight points, and Sam Funn had seven.
